Hydration Tips for Older Adults
Good hydration is essential for healthy ageing.
As we age, the sense of thirst diminishes, and certain medications or health conditions can further increase the risk of dehydration.
Signs of Dehydration
- Dry mouth or lips
- Dark-coloured urine or infrequent urination
- Fatigue or confusion
- Dizziness or light-headedness
Simple Hydration Tips
- Aim for 6–8 glasses of fluid daily
- Include water, milk, herbal teas, and diluted fruit juices
- Eat water-rich foods → cucumbers, melons, soups
- Drink regularly throughout the day → don’t wait until thirsty
- Use reminders if needed → set alarms or visual cues
Hydration supports cognitive function, digestion, joint health, and overall vitality.
